The GORGous Place To Be

Have you ever heard of Niagara’s rugged hiking trials and best look out spots towards the Niagara River?

Many have us who have lived and grown up in Ontario, have at some point visited Niagara Falls. You know, the closest natural wonder of the world, the place where 28 million liters of water travels down the falls per second. But, maybe some of us have never experienced the other hotspots in the area that are just are beautiful and breath taking.

There are a variety of nine different trials leading up to the Niagara gorge that hikers of all difficulties can truly experience an adventure. Turquoise waters, dense luscious tress and enormous rock bluffs are just some of major details of this unique landscape.

As we decided to take on this hiking challenge for the first time, we decided to hike the moderately-difficult set of trials that led us toward the Niagara Gorge. These trials include: Cliffside Trial, Eddy Trail, Woodland trial and River trial. When we mean, “moderately-difficult” please do not be fooled. There were still some steep steps along the way.

Tips to Consider:

  • Focus on your where you are stepping. These trails are so worn down that the rock walkways can be very slippery.

  • Don’t rush. Hiking is not meant to be a race, if you feel that you are holding up other hikers, let them pass. You also want to enjoy the experience and the views that surround you.

Believe it or not, the hike was not as long as we thought. There were a couple moments along the way when we were surrounded by large masses of rock that we could feel this cool air sensation. It was totally refreshing especially since, it was very hot in the non-shaded areas of the trial. For a moment, it felt like we were in the Jurassic World Theme Park at Universal Studios.

Eventually we made our way down some more rugged rocks and tree roots and were finally facing the beautiful gorge. The tide had looked like it was picking up pretty quick and there right across the river we could see our fellow American neighbours also taking a hike to examine the views of Niagara.

Overall, we both thoroughly enjoyed the hike as it gave us an opportunity to experience a totally different side of traditional Canadian landscapes. Indeed, the views made the moment so spectacular but, being able to spend some time outdoors, breathe some fresh air with no one around made the moment that much better.

Exploring places like the Niagara Gorge is not only for adventure seekers or even advanced hikers, it’s about finding a place where we all can escape our busy lives, and truly embrace the simple moments in life.

Our lesson to you based off this experience is to go and explore something today. It does not matter if you have visited this place before or not. You might surprise yourself by seeing something new or you might just find the perfect peaceful getaway.
